The idea of headlining a hometown venue has to be of one’s dream, but the idea of selling out said venue, must be a pipe dream but for The Ries Brothers, this is simply reality. The two brothers, Charlie and Kevin are two incredibly talented musicians each in their own right. Charlie, the elder, singer and drummer; and his younger brother Kevin on guitar put on a stellar show at Jannus Live this past Saturday, July 17. The show might as well have been entitled the Ries Reunion, because the night was filled with reconnecting with friends not seen since pre-pandemic. Hugs were flying all throughout the venue, gifted drinks, and sharing love and kindness all through the night.
Opening band, Sensi Trails put on a set that was full of new songs and a sound that was hypnotizing to say the least. The San Diego natives have a distinct flavor of reggae, but their new tunes seem to capture a sultry jazz feel, complimenting their already upbeat jams. Singer and frontman, Kyle Rising was stoked to unveil some new music for the crowd, and told MusicMoveMe about the new sound of the band. “We’re going toward a new direction and style, we started out with reggae on the last record, and the new one is going to be a little different, a new flavor,” Rising said while teasing a time frame for new music. The band is in the midst of an epic tour and plans to show off some of the new jams sometime after the tour.
Rising also told MusicMoveMe about how awesome it was to be part not just a sold out show at St. Petersburg famed venue, but what it was like to be part of the community’s reggae family, “The vibe here in St. Pete is really good, the reggae family is really strong and everybody is super stoked and pumped at the shows, very similar to the West Coast, but it is two different animals really. The West Coast has a certain style and the East Coast has a certain style but all together it is a big family.” And as the family grows larger and larger, bands like Sensi Trails provide amazing music and uplifting messages to grow the family even more so.

As the reggae family continues to grow, as do The Ries Brothers. The two were ecstatic to be back at Jannus and their smiles could tell a million words, and their set could blow a billion minds. As always, they put on one hell of a show. Kevin Ries stunned the sold out show with stupefying guitar solos, and Charlie Ries matched him on drums, but the real treat was the guests that came along with. Levi Foe on the synthesizer, Kyle Schroeder on the saxophone, and Kevin Offitzer on drums. All of whom play their respective instrument with a passion that can be not only heard but felt. As the night climbed to the height of its climax, the smiles on faces turned into dropped jaws and mesmerized eyes were affixed to the stage. With each performance, The Ries Brothers get better and better.
The night came to a close but the celebration did not, security had to repeat themselves numerous to the attendees times to leave the premises but the Ries faithful were all but ready to put a cap on the evening, but eventually things simmered down, and things carried over into the stretching avenues of St. Pete, but the ringing of The Ries Brother’s performance continued to linger happily in the ears of all those who were there.
